An experiment in multidisciplinary collaboration, the Transit Lounge was first held in Berlin in 2006, and was originally developed as a means of showcasing cutting edge Australian art abroad, giving first time international exposure to young and emerging artists. Extending on this initial premise, Transit Lounge 2007 included local, Berlin-based artists and architects and consisted of 2 distinct elements – a series of overlapping 1-month residencies and an online blog where artists could exchange ideas and issues related to the project. In 2007, Transit Lounge was also responsible for organising a series of talks on Australian art and architecture at the German Architecture Centre, Berlin, to coincide with their exhibition on Modern Australian architecture.

The Transit Lounge was a partner event of the Transmediale in 2006 and 2007, and in 2008 received funding from the Australia Council.

Articles on the Transit Lounge have featured in Art + Australia, Spring 2007, ‘Utopia Lounge’; Filter, No 63, ANAT ‘Transit Lounge and Transmediale’; Design Report, Vol 4, No 6,‘No Budget City’.
