The transit lounge is the archetypal transit space, the point where the hyper-global + hyper-local coincide; a location which blurs traditional conceptions of geo-political boundaries, creating pockets of international space within the borders of individual nation-states. An in-between space, it exists relative to a fixed departure and arrival point, not to the area that surrounds it.

From the 1st February - 30th April 2006, Finowstr. 14, 10247 Berlin will become the TRANSIT LOUNGE – a continuous intervention evolved by a group of Australian artists working across various disciplines. Conceived as a series of overlapping three week residencies, the work will be continually cannibalised as each new artist chooses to add to, reassemble or even deconstruct the work of the previous artist. This new-media merzbau will provide a platform for young and emerging Australian artists to network, share skills and collaborate, whilst promoting their work to an international audience.
